The back garden of a home has been overflowing with waste due to people flush non-degradable objects down the toilet.

A family living at Roxeth Green Avenue, South Harrow, have had enough of a manhole in their back-garden overflowing with water and waste due to people in neighbouring areas flushing wet wipes and other objects down the toilet.

Lata Patel, who lives in the house, called the situation “disgusting” and says that the regular drainage issues has “ruined” the garden.

She said: “We live in a semi-detached house and I think that the problems are caused from people flushing things down their toilet.

“Residents should not throw nappies, period pads and so on. It is disgusting and has ruined our garden.”

Mrs Patel claimed that she would often find remains of such nappies and period pads in their garden due to the drainage problem.

The overflowing drainage issues have been a reoccurring problem for the Patel household, with there being several occasions of the garden being flooded by sewage.

Mrs Patel and her husband Girish Patel have noticed similar overflowing issues a few streets away from their house.

Water Thames were then contacted about the issue and the drains were cleared on December 2.

A spokesperson for Thames Water confirmed: “We were called to deal with a sewer blockage caused by a build-up of wet wipes which we have now cleared.

“This serves as a reminder that people need to take care with what they flush down the toilet as wet wipes do not break down in the sewers.

“We ask people to make sure they only put the three Ps down the loo – pee, poo and paper.”

With the drains being cleared, the Patel family are hoping that people living in surrounding areas are aware that some items should not be flushed as they can cause blockages and be a nuisance.
