Harrow Council could help replant a community garden after it was “vandalised” for the second time in two years.

Cllr Krishna Suresh, responsible for crime and community cohesion at Harrow Council, said he would “look into” the possibility of funding its restoration.

He said he had spoken with the council’s environmental teams about the situation and would contact the Harrow Civic Residents’ Association, which manages the plot in Station Road.

“Despite our limited resources, we will aim to replant the flowers by using available community funds,” he said.

It comes after Jo Stephenson, of the residents’ association, reported that most of the garden had been “cut to the ground”.

She said it was now in a “terrible state” and that those who manage the flowerbeds were “devastated” to see it “destroyed” again.

Harrow police teams are investigating the incident.

The garden experienced similar problems in April last year, after tulips and daffodils were removed to leave it looking barren.

A replanting campaign, supported by seed businessman Paolo Arrigo, saw the “splash of colour” return to the site, which is outside a convenience store.

Mr Arrigo said he hoped to see similar projects spring up around the borough since they encourage people to “take pride in where they live”.

And Greenhill ward councillor Sue Anderson said the garden is “much loved” by residents of and visitors to Harrow.

Cllr Suresh noted the possibility of installing extra CCTV but reiterated the limited availability of council resources.

He said: “We have spent a lot of money on the very best CCTV to try and combat repeated cases of anti-social behaviour in key areas.

“We will do our level best to keep an eye on things – we are committed to supporting our residents and dealing with their concerns.”
