A collection of images show how a major development will affect viewpoints all over Watford.

On Monday night, Watford Borough Council's planning committee granted permission for 1,214 homes - including tower blocks of 28, 22, and 20 storey towers.

The plans were likened to the district of Manhattan in New York by one of our readers.

The homes will be built on the current TK Maxx and The Range retail park off St Albans Road, near Watford Junction.

Despite more than 160 objections to the scheme, which will bring the tallest building Watford has ever seen, a majority of councillors passed the plans through.

The council is under pressure from the government to deliver thousands of new homes in Watford - the town currently has a target of just under 800 for the next 15 to 20 years.

The gallery at the top of this page shows a series of photos and artist impressions from vantage points across Watford.

Some of the images have a CGI of the buildings inserted, depicting how the street landscape will look once the development is complete.

Other images have red dotted lines. These indicate the outline of the approved scheme and how it will look from the particular viewpoint.

Each viewpoint has been closely assessed as to whether the development will have a minimal, moderate, or major impact on the current view.

Berkeley Homes has responded to some concerns that have been shared about the size and scale of this St Albans Road scheme.

Pre-development director Daniel Massie said: "We understand that local people have concerns about the height of the buildings. Working with all consultees, we have given careful consideration to the location of tall buildings within the masterplan.

"This is to ensure they have minimal impact on the surrounding area, by locating them on the eastern boundary of the site and away from existing properties off St Albans Road."
