New biodegradable bags for parking tickets handed out in Brent means they are now ‘plastic free’.

Brent Council has replaced the distinctive yellow and black plastic bags which house parking charge notices (PCNs) with a greener alternative.

According to the council the bags, while compostable, are durable enough to withstand adverse weather conditions for several weeks.

Cllr Krupa Sheth, responsible for the environment at Brent Council, said: “Small actions add up, which is why we’re taking this step to reduce single-use plastics in our operations.”

It is the latest move to try and tackle climate change and improve the environment in the borough.

In July, Brent joined councils across the country in declaring a climate and ecological emergency and committed to do all reasonable in its gift to aim for carbon neutrality by 2030.

And a council scrutiny committee recently presented a report outlining plans to reduce pollution in Wembley during stadium and arena event days.
