Former Harrow Council leader Cllr Susan Hall has been elected as the new leader of the Conservatives at City Hall.

Cllr Hall, who also serves as a Greater London Authority (GLA) assembly member, was chosen by her colleagues to replace Gareth Bacon, who was elected as the MP for Orpington on December 12.

She said she was “honoured” to represent the Conservatives in the GLA and that she would “continue to hold [London mayor] Sadiq Khan to account”.

She referenced improving transport and tackling crime as key priorities going forward and plans to highlight the “alternatives available” to Londoners at next year’s mayoral election.

“Sadiq Khan has been hiding behind Brexit for so long, instead of focusing on the issues which are part of his job,” she said.

“And unless you sort your finances out, you won’t be able to get anything done – the amount of waste we’ve seen is a complete disgrace.

“As [his] unsuccessful mayoralty draws to a close, we will champion a new path for London which will make our city safer, build the homes Londoners need, and clean up our transport network.

“City Hall can deliver a greater London by prioritising police officers instead of press officers; restoring the affordable family-sized homes target; lifting the ban on developing disused industrial land; and investing in a new, cleaner bus fleet.”
