A TEACHER from Ickenham, who has run a brownie pack in Ruislip for 46 years, is honoured with a British Empire Medal in the New Year Honours, announced this evening.

During her time running the 7th Ruislip Windmill pack, it’s estimated that Kathleen Greaves had had a direct impact on the lives of more than a thousand girls.

She organises and runs the weekly meeting in addition to her full-time job as a primary school teacher.

Kathleen, 64, has also mentored other aspiring leaders as they have joined Girlguiding UK. She has guided these new volunteers towards gaining their Adult Leader certificates.

Her honour is for services to young people. Her citation says she has always encouraged girls to achieve everything, from a new Brownie badge to going up to Guides and taking on new and bigger challenges.

It goes on: “She managed to maintain the Brownie unit with some help while studying part-time for an undergraduate degree and then the graduate teacher programme.”
