As celebrations began for the new year, one float was recognised for their extravagant efforts.

About 10,000 performers from various countries led the 24th annual New Year’s Day Parade in London.

This year, the theme ‘London Loves Life’ theme focused on illustrating the positivity, energy and diversity in London.

Harrow was found to have the best borough float after participating in the borough competition against all 31 London boroughs.

A ‘Heart of Harrow’ float, decorated with colourful flowers and many hearts, drove from Green Park to the Houses of Parliament during the parade.

Borough entrants competed on who could have the best float, act, performance, dance ensemble or all of the above.

Husain Akhtar, the Harrow Monitoring Group researcher, overlooked the parade. He said: “It was delightful to support the Harrow entry and the outcome is wonderful.”

By the end, the Mayor of Harrow’s Charity Fund was awarded a £5,000 prize.
