HOW do you bridge the gap between getting a degree and starting in the job you really want?

For Gurprit Bansal (27), from Hillingdon, the answer was a fast-track graduate scheme with housebuilder Bellway.

He joined its North London division, based in Ruislip, around two years ago, rising to the role of trainee site manager just over 12 months later.

Gurprit, currently working on the Wickfields development near Princes Risborough, contacted a recruitment agency to help find work after graduating with a construction management degree from Westminster University. It recommended Bellway.

Gurprit said: “I was on a construction site at first and then spent time in each department at Ruislip.”

He said joining Bellway after leaving university had been a steep learning curve.

After his intensive training, he became a trainee site manager at Wickfields in April last year.

Bellway recruited seven apprentices and one graduate to its North London division in the last financial year.
