Almost 40 more bike hangars could be installed across Brent as the council looks to promote more environmentally friendly travel.
Brent Council’s cabinet agreed to follow a framework used in Waltham Forest, which will allow it to use an additional contractor – Falco UK – to provide the hangars.
It could result in 38 new hangars across the borough, which would provide 228 secure cycle spaces.
There have been over 300 requests for bike spaces, mainly from those living in the south of the borough.
According to the council, the move is in line with its ambitions to “actively promote sustainable travel and encourage more residents to cycle and to enjoy the many benefits that cycling brings, including reducing air pollution in the borough”.
It added that Falco’s hangars can accommodate various styles of bikes and are particularly secure to protect against theft and vandalism.
The scheme is funded by a grant from Transport for London, though the council would be responsible for any damage to the hangars.
