A group of travellers were quickly cleared from two car parks at a golf course.

Twelve caravans and other cars and vans of travellers were parked at Rickmansworth Golf Course for five days as the group rested at the site.

Three Rivers District Council says the group arrived at the evening of last Thursday (March 12), where it is understood they cut the car parks locks to gain entry.

The council were aware shortly after but as they waited for a court order for the travellers to leave the site, the group left behind flytipping damages over the weekend.

A court order was then obtained on Monday (March 16), with the travellers escorted out later that day.

A clear-up operation then took place the following day to remove an abandoned caravan and van that was left behind at both car parks.

Sara Bedford, leader of the council, said: “I would like to thank council officers for their usual quick action.

“Unfortunately, in the time it takes for the legal procedures to be enacted and a court order to be obtained, significant fly tipping has taken place and damaged caused.

“There has to be a better way of dealing with such encampments in the future.”
