Hundreds of thousands of people across the country joined in a mass round of applause for NHS workers battling the coronavirus pandemic.

The Clap for Carers campaign, which started online, was staged to thank the frontline healthcare heroes who are helping to save patients with Covid-19.

Videos shared by readers show neighbours in and around Watford clapping and cheering from their homes as a show of unity at 8pm last night.

Lisa, a worker at Watford General Hospital, clapped for the NHS with her family and neighbours in Abbots Langley. She shared a video of the event:

Lisa said: "This is for my lovely work colleagues at Watford General Hospital.

"I work in the operating theatres. Unfortunately, I’m off with an illness since December and feel sad I can’t be there to help them through this awful time. Looking forward to getting back to them towards the end of the year."

She said her children Fred, 7, and Ruby, 5, (pictured above) would like to thank the NHS for helping their mum get better.
