At the beginning of the Second World War the UK was woefully short of suitable aircraft fighters.
On becoming Prime Minister in May 1940, Churchill appointed Lord Beaverbrook as Minister of Aircraft Production and within a few months Britain had sufficient Spitfires and Hurricanes to win, with the help of radar, the Battle of Britain.
A great pity our present Prime Minister hasn’t found a similar dynamic person to make minister of the coronavirus epidemic able to sort out the present problems of PPE and testing.
Incidentally I understand medical advisers are now mulling over their previous advice that face masks have little or no effect, in which case I can’t help wondering why face masks are a mandatory part of PPE.
I know there is concern that face masks for members of the public who venture out may affect the provision of masks for medics and carers but all this points to the appointment of an epidemic Tzar.
