Thousands of O2 customers across the UK have reported problems with making phone calls and receiving texts as the network went down today. 

The issues started at around midday, according to Down Detector.

The telecommunications company shared an update on its website. 

Its notice, which was last updated at 3pm, read: "We’re aware of an issue which might be affecting some customers making and receiving voice calls. 

"Our technical teams are investigating. Data and text messages are not impacted. We apologise for any inconvenience.

"Updates will be shared here as soon they are available."

Down Detector's heat map shows that customers from London, as well as other UK cities like Manchester and Birmingham have been affected.

Disgruntled O2 users also took to Twitter to report their issues.

One user said they had missed a doctor's appointment and asked if the company. Others said they needed to contact isolating families and make phone calls for work.
