We are told the Government will watch other European countries emerge from lockdown. Members of the Government seem to be great watchers.

They watched while other countries bought ventilators, PPE, test kits and masks for the public and made a virtue of insufficient ventilators - could be bad for your health and no public masks - to do little against the virus.

They also watched while deaths in care homes soared and are still watching 15,000 people daily arriving at UK airports with no medical checks.

Their general antipathy to all things EU is well known and probably the reason for not participating in the EU initiative for ordering medical equipment. That emails were sent to an old address seems a particularly weak excuse.

A general early lackadaisical approach to the virus might well have resulted in a high number of deaths with more to come. The Government has not covered itself in glory in dealing with the virus emergency and one can only hope for a better performance in the Brexit negotiations.
