TEJI Barnes was elected the new Mayor of Hillingdon at the council’s annual meeting last night (14). She replaces the retiring David Yarrow.

As mayor, she will attend events, performances and exhibitions, and welcome schools and community groups to the mayor’s parlour and council chamber when the coronavirus restrictions are lifted.

She will be accompanied by mayoresses Roma and Elouisa Bell, and the Mayor’s Escort, Cameron Bell.

Cllr Barnes grew up in West Drayton and Hayes and now lives in Ruislip with her three children. She was first elected in 2014 and represents Cavendish ward.

She said: “The role will use many of the skills I have gained over the years, including teaching, owning my own business, working in finance, volunteering with the Samaritans, and of course, my role as a councillor.

“I will be raising funds for the Centre for ADHD and Autism Support Charity, Ruislip."
