AN ART project is helping keep Llanfyllin’s youngsters entertained during the lockdown.

Arts Connection has been attempting to encourage local children’s creativity with two projects – to create a banner in support of the NHS, and to paint rocks and leave them on the cenotaph.

Town Mayor and councillor Peter Lewis praised the charity for its efforts.

He said: “Sian Walters at Art Connection has been very thorough with sourcing funding for activities to keep children busy with art projects during this lockdown period.”

He said there are two projects being run by the group.

“The first is to create a banner to thank the NHS with the help of artists on Arts Connection registry and local children”, said Cllr Lewis.

“This was brought to Sian’s attention by Robbie Conlin and is a community project funded by Stadco so well one to all concerned there.

“The second is for children to paint rocks and leave them on the Cenotaph on the Square during their permitted exercise. Sian is asking parents to photograph the rocks and help the children to write a story about their rock and send these to her.

“She will then make an online display for parents and children to find digitally. This is a digital version of the usual game where children find hidden painted rocks. Also, the rock around the Cenotaph will brighten up the square, but these are not to be removed. British Legion have been contacted and they have given their approval.

“It is amazing to see the community pulling together like this and I would like to send out my thanks to Sian and all concerned for their hard work and community inclusion in these trying times.”
