A Covid-19 testing centre is being set up in an area with one of the highest death tolls related to the virus.

Those living in Harlesden, north-west London, who are showing symptoms of coronavirus are being encouraged to visit the testing site at Harlesden Town Garden, in Challenge Close.

The centre opens tomorrow (June 10) with appointments available every day from 10am to 5pm.

Test slots can be booked by calling Brent Council on 020 8937 4440.

Cllr Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, said: “Covid-19 has not gone away, and it is still killing people in our community.

“I am urging any local residents, if they have symptoms, to get tested now to protect yourself and others, and help to stop the spread of this virus.”

Symptoms of Covid-19 include a high temperature, a new and continuous cough and a change in sense of taste or smell.

To attend the testing site, those with appointments need their confirmation email, valid ID and a face covering.

They should then self-isolate, along with all members of their household, until they receive their results – these will be sent by text and email within 24 to 72 hours of completing the test.

The council reminded those who test positive for coronavirus that they should take the necessary self-isolation steps to help reduce its spread.
