A HILLINGDON faith leader has called on those protesting over the death of George Floyd in the US to remain peaceful while demonstrating.

Imam Mansur Ahmed, of the Baitul Amn Mosque in Royal Lane, says: “Hurting people and damaging property is not going to help achieve equality and justice.

“Rather, people should use their democratic right to bring about a change.”

He quotes the world leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, who insists protests are generally of limited effect.

He says the winning of rights requires planning and a longer-term strategy, as the effects of protests are often short term.

The imam says people should use their civic and democratic rights, rather than staying at home on election days.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community champions absolute justice for all, regardless of race, ethnicity, culture or creed.

As a community that has endured persecution in some parts of the Muslim world, it preaches that only through absolute justice can nations achieve everlasting peace.
