A man was rushed to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries after he was shot in the chest last night.

Armed police responded to reports of a shooting in Borehamwood at around 10.50pm on Tuesday.

Multiple police units, dog units, and paramedics were called to the roundabout near the former Directors Arms.

One man was seriously injured after he was shot.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has said the injured man, whose age has not been disclosed, was taken to hospital with what is believed to be life-changing injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear and is being investigated by detectives.

A manhunt for any suspects overnight proved unsuccessful despite help from police dogs and the police helicopter.

Hertsmere Detective Inspector Michael Macbeth has said his team are searching for those responsible.

He said: "I understand news of this incident will be alarming, I want to reassure the community that we are investigating the circumstances surrounding this and doing all we can to locate those responsible."

This morning, a wide police cordon remained in place at the roundabout where Ripon Way, Cranes Way, and Manor Way meet.

There are several police officers guarding entrances to the cordon and a number of police cars still at the scene.

There are also a number of homes and vehicles within the cordon.

The leader of Hertsmere Borough Council, Morris Bright, lives near the scene of the shooting and confirmed police are still closely guarding the scene.

He added: "I have been made aware of the details of this shocking incident.

"Such an incident is a shock to us all. Thankfully shootings are very rare.

"Hertsmere is still a safe place to live. I have confidence the police will get to the bottom of what has happened here."

Road closures in Manor Way, Cranes Way, and Ripon Way mean drivers are asked to find alternative routes while buses are being diverted.

The closures could remain in place for the rest of the day.
