The A41 was flooded and trees were destroyed following warnings by the Met Office to prepare for thunderstorms.

Following a sunny past few days during the UK heatwave, Hertfordshire was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm, causing road flooding this afternoon.

A section of the A41 near Watford was flooded with water following an interval of heavy rain at 4pm.

It is believed the water has since been cleared up.

Lighting could even be seen striking just by Apsley Station, as Dan Simpson managed to capture the spectacle just at the right moment.

But the Friends of Cassiobury Park spotted two fallen trees after the rain began to settle in the area by 6pm.
