The Met Office is warning of continued thunderstorms after parts of Hertfordshire were struck by lightning, heavy rain, and strong winds yesterday.

While some areas were dry yesterday (August 12) during the heatwave, some areas were faced with severe thunderstorms as roads in Hemel Hempstead and parts of the A41 were flooded.

This evening, the Met Office continues its yellow weather warning as thunderstorms are expected to reach Watford at around 7pm.

The forecaster suggests that the storm will last until 10pm and predicts a 60 per cent chance or precipitation during the storm.

While the weather is expected to then cool down for Friday (August 14), Watford is forecasted to have some light rain by 4pm.

Then more storms are expected in Watford between 5pm to 7pm, with a 50 to 60 per cent chance of precipitation.

During the storms the Met Office warns of a small chance that fast flowing or deep floodwater could occur, bringing a danger to life and flooding homes and businesses.

There is also a chance or road closures if the weather causes dangerous driving conditions, and the Met Office warns there is a chance that power and other essential services could be lost.

Yesterday a BMW car was stranded in the middle of the road in Queensway, Hemel Hempstead, as the lower half of the car was covered in floodwater.

Lighting could even be seen striking just by Apsley Station, as Dan Simpson managed to capture the spectacle just at the right moment.
