Police have released some details about why there was a major emergency presence in a Borehamwood neighbourhood yesterday.

There were ambulances, police cars, and a police helicopter in attendance in the Cowley Hill area and other parts of the town on Wednesday afternoon.

Police have confirmed there were three incidents which all occurred at a similar time.

Hertfordshire Constabulary says it was called to Leeming Road at 1pm. Ambulances also attended.

A police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 1pm yesterday (Wednesday 12 August) to Leeming Road, Borehamwood to reports of concern for the welfare of a man.

"Officers and the East of England Ambulance Service attended.

"The man was spoken to and appropriate referrals/safeguarding advice given."

Around 45 minutes later, police were called to an address in nearby Gateshead Road.

A forensics van and a couple of police cars were seen parked up in the road.

The incidents in Leeming Road and Gateshead Road have been confirmed by police to be unconnected, with the force sadly confirming the reason why they were in Gateshead Road.

A spokesperson said: "Police were called at 1.44pm yesterday (Wednesday 12 August) to carry out enquiries in Gateshead Road, Borehamwood, following a sudden death.

"The death has been deemed non-suspicious."

Police have also said the helicopter was circling the town as part of an investigation into a shooting.

Today, police confirmed a 23-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder.

It relates to an incident where a 16-year-old boy was found with a gunshot wound to his chest near Ripon Park on the evening of August 4.
