I fully support Cllr Giles Medhurst’s ‘Push for pedal power’ letter last week (Letters, August 7). As part of his Thomas Sawyer Way Cycle route proposal, there is a need to join it to the Ebury Way at the Riverwell Development site, thereby linking Watford General, Rickmansworth and various business estates to encourage cycle commuting. Improvement of the Ebury Way surface should be part of this development. Once the Oxhey Activity Park opens, the restricted view when crossing Thomas Sawyer Way near Dalton Way will become a significant risk for a presumably larger number of children using that route to get to the park.
The benefits of all Cycle Way provision is much reduced by lack of maintenance of surfaces and cutting back of vegetation. If the UK is serious about reducing car use then maintenance of the cycle network is vital.
