Action is being taken against travellers who have set up camp on football pitches.

Three Rivers District Council says it is aware of an encampment on the pitches at Chorleywood House Estate after several caravans were spotted at the site on Sunday evening (August 16).

The council is currently in the process of applying for an eviction order to move the travellers on from the site, which is home to Chorleywood Common Youth FC.

The club leases the land from the council to allow its 50 teams to play there.

Chairman Guy Allen said he was made aware of the encampment at around 8pm on Sunday evening.

He said that one of the teams had been training during the day before locking up at 5pm.

Mr Allen added: “I am confident everything was locked, but I got an email around 8 to say that travellers were at the site.

“I believe that they will be moved on, but I am worried about the mess. Hopefully, there is no damage.”

Cllr Phil Williams said: “It is really disappointing that travellers have chosen to set up camp here.

“I hope that when they leave the football pitches are left in the same state that they found it.”

Hertfordshire Constabulary says it is “monitoring the situation” while liaising with the landowners.

The encampment comes after travellers were spotted on The Green in Croxley Green earlier this month.

Travellers had arrived at the site on August 7, although were moved on six days later.
