A new-look leisure centre will reopen this week following a £9 million investment.

South Oxhey Leisure Centre has been undergoing major improvement works since February 2019 and operator Everyone Active is ready for the grand unveiling.

From Tuesday September 1, the gym facilities will open, including the launch of the new group exercise studios and addition of the group cycling studio.

From September 14, a new 25 metre four lane pool and large teaching pool will open for lane swimming, with swimming lessons starting on the 19th.

Other improvements include a new multipurpose room which will be used to serve more of the community for a multitude of activities.

Two sports have now been refurbished with new flooring, lighting, redecoration and relining.

John Sewell, Everyone Active’s area contract manager, said: "We are very much looking forward to welcoming the local community to our new and improved facility.

"Ensuring our colleagues and customers remain safe is our number one priority and we have carefully considered the strict measurements to ensure we adhere to the new social distancing guidance."

The project has been completed in partnership with Three Rivers District Council.

Councillor Chris Lloyd, lead member for leisure said: "It is great to see that this much loved facility in South Oxhey is ready to reopen its doors. Following the circa £9million investment by Three Rivers District Council, our residents can now enjoy a much improved and extended facility on their doorstep.

"There has never been a better time for our residents to come back into their facilities and take part in sports that they love or for new faces to come along and try something new."

South Oxhey councillor Stephen Cox added: "Given the Covid crisis, it is remarkable to see this brand new facility opening at its rescheduled time, albeit in a phased manner. Labour has long supported and championed this project which is a big boost for the area. I can’t wait to pop in and take a look."

The Sir James Altham Pool will not be reopening. Customers with memberships for Sir James Altham Pool can use the swimming facilities at William Penn Leisure Centre until the brand new pools have opened on September 14.
