Alex Danson-Bennett has joined Wimbledon Hockey Club for the start of the new season, which kicked off this week.

The Olympic legend will join the Women’s Elite Coaching Team at the club grounds at Bushey Road following her successful career.

Alex won Gold at the 2016 Olympics and Bronze at the 2012 Olympics and has been recognised as one of the best Hockey players in the world.

Following the gold in Rio, she was awarded an MBE for services to hockey.

This is a major win for Wimbledon Hockey Club, who’s men and women’s teams already have a number of Great Britain stars in their ranks.

Danson-Bennett will be bringing her wealth of hockey expertise to help the ladies’ first team continue their forward momentum following their recent promotion to the top-flight premiership league.

Wimbledon Times:

The Olympic star says she is excited to get back into hockey after she announced her retirement earlier this year.

Alex Danson-Bennett said: "I’m absolutely delighted to join Wimbledon Hockey Club at such a crucial time.

"Not only is the club one of the top performers, it is also extremely family oriented with a great community.

"I am excited to be back involved in hockey in a different capacity and cannot think of a better environment to start my coaching journey."

Wimbledon Hockey Club Chairman Paul Knowles said: "Alex brings a phenomenal reputation as a world-class player, role model and leader.

"We are looking forward to her help in supporting our women move to the next level as they join the top-flight clubs in the English Premiership.

"We warmly welcome Alex to the team and can’t wait to share the next phase of Wimbledon’s journey together.”
