The M25 was at a standstill this morning after a car was destroyed in a  crash.

Pictures showed multiple ambulances and police vehicles on the anti-clockwise carriageway at around 9am.

The crash appears to have happened closer to 8.20am with Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue confirming an emergency call was received at 8.23am.

A fire crew from Garston was sent to the scene.

Police officers on the M25 shared an image of a battered silver car involved in the crash parked on the hard shoulder between junction 19 for Watford and 18 for Rickmansworth.

The front of the silver car was completely wrecked and the wheels had become disattached.

The side of the car was dented, the windscreen cracked, and the airbags had deployed due to the impact of the collision.

Hillingdon Times:

Police tweeted at 8.51am: "We are currently dealing with  a serious collision on the M25 between junctions 19 and 18.

"The road is completely blocked so avoid the area."

Police say the driver of the silver vehicle sustained minor injuries.

There was no mention from police of any other vehicles involved and there was no sign of any other damaged vehicles in images published by the police.

The road policing unit wrote on Twitter that a woman was arrested after undergoing drink and drug preliminary roadside tests.

Hillingdon Times:

All four lanes of the motorway were blocked at one stage with debris strewn across the carriageway.

Traffic highway officers were seen clearing the scene.

Police added that words of advice were given to some drivers who ignored electronic signs on the motorway indicating lane closures were in place.

Live traffic data suggests the M25 has now reopened and traffic is running freely again.

However, there are reports on Highways England of a collision on the anti-clockwise exit slip road at junction 20 for Kings Langley and the A41.

This means it is a taking a little longer for drivers leaving a this junction, although the main carriageway of the M25 is largely unaffected.

Highways England estimates the incident and traffic delays on the slip road will clear at around 10.30am.
