BRIGHTON and Hove is set to be battered by heavy rain and strong winds with the Met Office issuing a flood warning.

The Met Office has predicted flooding for homes and businesses as well as transport disruption across Sussex.

While the seafront is expected to be affected by spray and large waves.

The yellow warning is in place between 3am and 8pm on Friday, October 2.

There are expected to be strong winds of up to 65mph, along with rainfall as high as 50mm over the course of 18 hours.

The combination of wind and rain, combined with trees losing their leaves, increases the risk of flooding due to blocked drains and watercourses, the Met Office said.

A spokesman said there it was "likely" transport throughout the region would be disrupted.

He said: "The combination of wind and rain, combined with trees losing their leaves, increases the risk of flooding due to blocked drains and watercourses.

"The wind and rain will ease from the south later on Friday, as the weather system responsible starts to move away."
