Police officers were threatened with a knife after a shopkeeper was stabbed during a robbery.

Metropolitan Police says it was called to reports of a robbery at a shop in Grand Parade, Finchley, at 1pm on Tuesday, October 20.

The force said a suspect, who was armed with a knife, got into a struggle with a male and female member of staff and stabbed the male victim.

He was taken to hospital with a non life-threatening injury, police said, while the female victim suffered a laceration to her hand.

Police said the attacker made off with a number of stolen items – including the victims’ bank cards.

While detectives were conducting CCTV enquiries, an officer spotted a suspect in Finchley High Road.

Police confronted the person, who then threatened officers with a large kitchen knife, Scotland Yard said.

A taser was deployed, police said.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and grievous bodily harm with intent.

He has been taken to a north London police station where he remains in custody.

Detective Sergeant Gary Taylor said: “Sadly, this incident is also an example of the dangers police officers face day in, day out while protecting the communities they serve. Luckily, no officers were harmed during the confrontation with the suspect as they were able to bring the situation to a safe conclusion.

“Violence towards police officers or members of the public will not be tolerated and we are dedicated to ensuring such offenders are swiftly brought to justice.”
