POLICE were called to an incident in Witham yesterday after a woman was hit by a car.

Officers were called to Newland Street at about 5.50pm after reports of a collision.

They arrived to find a woman in her 20s had been in a collision with a car.

An ambulance arrived which then took her to hospital.

A spokesman from Essex Police said: "We were called just before 5.30pm with reports of a collision in Newland Street, Witham.

"A car and a pedestrian had been in collision.

"The pedestrian a woman in her 20s was taken to hospital with an ankle injury.

"No arrests have been made."

Essex Police also posted about the incident on their Braintree district Facebook page with a warning to pedestrians and drivers.

They said: "Last night in #Witham Police were called to a traffic collision where a woman was hit by a car on a pedestrian crossing - luckily officers and ambulance were just around the corner and the injuries were not life threatening.

"Please remember with these darker nights #BeSafeBeSeen

"Wishing all involved a speed recovery."
