THIRTY NINE more people in Brighton and Hove have tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24-hour reporting period.

Latest Public Health England statistics showed 4,177 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Friday in the city, since the pandemic hit.

The 39 new cases were an increase of 12 on the previous day, when 27 people tested positive.

The rate of infection in the area now stands at 1,436 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 2,580.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 16,298 over the period to 1,690,432.

In West Sussex, 98 tested positive for the virus over the same period. Figures show 9,415 people had been confirmed with the virus, an increase from 9,317 at the same time on Thursday.

In East Sussex, cases rose by 129 over the last 24 hours.

Public Health England figures show 5,759 people had been confirmed as testing positive by 9am on Friday, a rise from 5,630 on Thursday.

The rate of infection in the area now stands at 1,034 cases per 100,000 people.

East Sussex’s cases were among the 143,051 recorded across the South East, a figure which rose by 2,299 over the period.

Across the UK, cases increased by 16,298 over the period to 1,690,432.
