In the December 4 edition of the Watford Observer, I wrote my concerns over the timing of the implementation of a trial Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) and the risks it posed to residents. I hate to say I told you so, but Watford Borough Council, you can’t say I didn’t warn you.

For a fortnight now the nation has been in lockdown, and the council has suspended the enforcement of CPZs across Watford. However, according to a letter from the council dated January 4, we still need to purchase a permit creating yet another unnecessary financial strain during a pandemic. Furthermore, I note on the council website it is advising surveys will be going out on March 15. Will this still be the case if we are still in lockdown? How can you review something that has not been implemented? The logic is somewhat lacking.

Now, in my prior letter I did explain that many residents are now working from home even before this third lockdown. Those with childcare responsibilities, are furloughed or have unfortunately been made redundant as a result of a tough year are, you guessed it, staying at home. January was a risky month to propose this trial to begin with and now thanks to restrictions which many saw as inevitable, they have now been charged for an unenforceable product.

Regrettably, the implementation of the CPZ has been a dragged-out saga which has left many Callowland residents with a bitter taste in their mouth, and that’s before we even begin to discuss the timing fiasco.
