A recent poll shows four in five people are happy living in their current area.

Over 10,000 people responded to the ‘SW Herts – your future’ poll, which looked to see how pleased people were in their local areas.

The poll - which was a collaboration of council’s including Watford, Three Rivers, Dacorum Hertsmere and St Albans – questioned people what kind of improvements are needed in local towns.

Results showed that 86 per cent of people who took part felt positive about living and working in South West Herts and nearly 70 per cent said that parks and open spaces were their favourite thing.

Over 60 per cent of respondents said they liked living in close proximity to London, with 70 per cent of under 25s particularly being in favour of living near London.

The poll also revealed that improving public transport and sustainability and road connections were among the top priorities needed in South West Hertfordshire.

These results will be used to inform the emerging local plans across the area as well as helping form strategic long-term plans.

Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “It’s fantastic to see how positive people feel about Watford and the wider area. The results from this poll provide us with an excellent starting point as we think about the future.

“We need to build on the positives and work together towards a united vision for the region that will make it an even better place to live, work and visit. Only by working together and taking a more strategic, long-term view can we deliver the right infrastructure, the right homes and space for our businesses to grow.”
