LOCKDOWN Freedom Day was marked in Uxbridge today (29) by the reopening of Hillingdon Lido.
It’s the day when outdoor sports and leisure centres can reopen for the first time since January 4 and there was plenty of interest at the Lido, which is run for Hillingdon Council by Better Leisure.
Our picture shows The Lido Ladies of London Jessica Walker, 57, and Nicola Foster, 56, from the Lido Ladies of London, who were among the early visitors.
The Lido is an Art Deco 50m unheated pool in Gatting Way that first opened in 1935. More than 6,000 people used the pool in one day in July 1952.
In January 1985, it froze and was used by staff for skating. Wetsuits are allowed and it is a popular training ground for Hillingdon Triathlon club.
Pool users are being asked to arrive ‘beach ready’ to reduce the need for changing rooms.
