The family of a hospital matron who passed away from coronavirus have paid a poignant tribute to her one year on.

Sara Trollope died in the early hours of Good Friday last year after contracting Covid-19, aged just 51.

The mother-of-four, who lived in Carpenders Park, passed away at Watford General Hospital exactly 12 months ago on April 10.

To mark the first anniversary of Mrs Trollope's death, her husband Gary has shared the following tribute.

He wrote: "You were taken too soon; a huge hole has been left in our hearts. You were a wonderful wife, mother, nan, daughter and sister.

"Your heart was so big, you cared for us all. You supported me in the darkest of times, and celebrated the good times, with a smile that could light a room.

"We miss you every day, we long for the day we can all be together again.

"With much and never-ending love, Gary and family, xx".

Mrs Trollope had four children; twins Kyle and Michael, and daughters Gemma and Freya, as well as two grandchildren.

She worked in the NHS all of her life, living her dream to work as a nurse, and was working as a matron for older adult mental health services at Hillingdon Hospital in Uxbridge.

Last year, her daughter Freya, who was 18 at the time, described her mother as her "best friend".

Freya told the Observer: "My mum was my rock and my best friend. She meant so much to me and she will never be forgotten.

"She always worked so hard for all of us and always put herself out there for others."

Husband Gary, a former soldier who suffered life-changing injuries in the Falklands war, also paid tribute at the time, saying of his wife: "You are the love of my life, you are my rose."

More than £16,000 was raised to support the Trollope family via a Go Fund Me page.

Mrs Trollope's sister Leanne wrote on the page to say she and her family were "truly astounded by everyone's generosity".
