A revised proposal to demolish a detached home and build a block of flats has been submitted - but neighbours and councillors still have concerns about the plans.

Watford Borough Council has received a new application to create a block of eight one and two-bed flats on the corner of Stratford Road and Langley Road.

Initial plans for nine flats were withdrawn by applicants Smart Build Homes Ltd in February.

At the time, Nascot ward councillors opposed the plan due to the site's proximity to a "hazardous junction", while locals also do not want to see a family home lost.

But after revised plans were put forward, Tom Osborn, a Liberal Democrat council candidate for Nascot, said: "Neighbours have told me that they are unhappy that this prominent corner plot family home will be lost to make way for more small flats.

"The area has an identified need for three-bedroom properties but none of the eight flats put forward by the developer will be larger than two bedrooms.

"In my view, the proposed back garden car park leading onto a dangerous bend on the notoriously busy Langley Road fails to meet the objectives of the residential design guidance and should therefore be refused.

"Moving the parking arrangements from Stratford Road to the busy Langley Road is an accident waiting to happen."

Claire Miller, who lives nearby, said back in February: "Adding additional homes at the crossroads of an existing busy junction will present a dangerous risk for cars entering and exiting the site.

"Growing the number of homes within the area will add pressure to amenities such as local schools, parks, doctors and transport links."

The planning agents for the scheme were contacted for comment about the concerns but did not respond.

People have until May 7 to submit any comments on the council's planning portal about this application. The planning reference is 21/00571/FUL.
