A TEENAGER has been arrested after a police officer was assaulted.
Officers from the Braintree Local Policing Team were out patrolling in Witham at 3am today.
After spotting a person cycling in Spa Road they attempted to stop him to no avail.
A chase then ensued between the officers and a boy who was quickly caught after he ran into a fence.
One of the officers was then assaulted before the boy was restrained and other units quickly arrived at the scene.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested for assault on an emergency worker and searched, which resulted in the discovery of a significant amount of what police believe to be Class A drugs including heroin and cocaine.
Three burner phones were also found.
He was further arrested and taken to custody and his bicycle has been seized.
