To celebrate a woman’s centenary a care home rents a pony to join the birthday party.

Birthday girl Nesta Williams lives at Chorleywood Beaumont care home and was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents, including a pony, as she received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday.

It was Nesta’s wish to have a pony visiting her as she has always loved animals so the care home rented the pony from Ollie and Friends Therapy and Party Ponies which offers animal therapy to patients living with dementia.

A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a birthday cake made by the home’s chef Callum Stoneham.

Nesta was born in Penwitham in 1921 and at the age of nine she passed her eleven plus for Macclesfield Grammar School and was a volunteer intercommunication person in her local area during the Second World War.

She was involved in WI and the Mothers’ Union in St Albans.

The 100-year-old said: “It’s been a marvellous day, wonderful, I am booking my birthday party for next year already.”

Nesta’s daughter Heather said: “Nesta is and has been a fantastic mother and friend to so many over the past hundred years, and it’s wonderful to be with her on this very special day to say just how proud she makes us feel.”

Judith Operations Manager of Barchester Chorleywood Beaumont added: “We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing milestone.
