House prices nationally soared by 10.9 per cent annually in May, marking the strongest growth in nearly seven years, according to an index.

The double-digit house price growth recorded in May followed a 7.1 per cent annual increase recorded in April, Nationwide Building Society said.

Across the UK, property values hit a new record average of £242,832 – up by £23,930 compared with 12 months earlier.

Watford's average house price in March stood at £367,000 according to the Land Industry, and the town has seen some of the largest percentage increases in for sale stock anywhere in the country this year.

GetAgent.co.uk compared the number of homes listed for sale in towns and cities between April 20 and May 12 2020 and April 29 and May 12 this year - and Watford recorded an 821 per cent increase in the number of homes on the market.
