PUPILS and staff from The Harefield Academy joined partner schools on Thursday (17) as they began walking the distance to Tokyo, 5,855 miles, ahead of this summer’s Olympics.

They were joined by Team GB sprinter and former Harefield pupil Rion Pierre, who hopes to be selected for the Games..

The Walk to Tokyo aims to inspire pupils to be more physically active and teach them the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.

The Walk to Tokyo is also a precursor to the academy’s Olympic Day next Wednesday (23) when Harefield pupils will compete against partner schools in an athletics festival.
