Scott Brash believes Britain's show jumpers are primed to deliver more equestrian medals in Tokyo.

The dressage and eventing stars bagged two golds, a silver and a bronze in their competitions with attention now switching to the show jumpers.

Five years ago Nick Skelton won individual gold in Rio while Brash and Tokyo team-mate Ben Maher were both gold medallists in the team event at London 2012.

They are joining forces with Olympic newcomer Harry Charles in Japan and all three produced clear rounds in qualifying for Wednesday's individual final.

Maher tops the leaderboard on time but Brash is just fractions behind - as he seeks to improve on fifth place in London at his second Games.

"I'm delighted with that first performance," he said, after guiding Jefferson to a flawless round on a course that asked plenty of questions.

"It's a tough course, it's really colourful with some tricky combinations and you never know how the horses will react, especially under lights.

"He's an amazing horse, we're growing as a partnership and we understand each other better with every round we do.

"Usually he gets better at the competition goes on, so that's a very encouraging start for us, I'd have taken that all day long.

"We've got a great team here and we've got a great chance but with only three riders anything can happen. We're all in good shape, we just need a bit of luck but it's a great chance.

"I need to analyse what I did as there is always something to improve."
