FOR its next performance, Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra will be commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

A special concert will take place just steps from the actual Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge, where fighter aircraft operations were controlled.

It was originally planned for last year, to coincide with the actual anniversary. The orchestra is excited to finally proceed with a performance featuring rousing and also reflective classics.

It will include film music, from William Walton’s Spitfire Prelude and Fugue and Eric Coates’ Dambusters March, to Elmer Bernstein’s The Great Escape.

Edward Elgar’s Nimrod, from his Enigma Variations, will provide a moment for reflection, along with George Butterworth’s Banks of Green Willow. It concludes with Ross Parker’s and Hughie Charles’ We’ll Meet Again.

The concert will take place in the bunker’s visitor centre and will be led by Lucy Cumming, with orchestra founder Peter J. Williams conducting.
