New research reveals that while most of us (93 per cent) understand what the biggest causes of climate change are, only two-fifths (42 per cent) are aware that nature itself is a crucial tool in combatting it.

With this in mind, Sky Zero and WWF are launching the Force for Nature campaign: to highlight the power of the UK’s natural habitats in the battle against climate change. Sky Zero and WWF are asking the public to sign up to call on UK governments to keep their climate promises, in return offering to plant up to one million seagrass seeds (that capture carbon 35 times faster than rainforests) around the UK.

As part of the Force for Nature campaign, WWF have shared five top tips everyone can follow to help nature thrive in the fight back against climate change.

These include shopping and eating smarter to reduce food waste and your carbon footprint, while growing your own herbs and vegetables is also being encouraged to cut down on plastic packaging. Using peat-free compost is another suggestion, with peat being a natural resource that provides an essential habitat for wildlife and possesses amazing carbon-capturing qualities. Other ideas include working with a local group, school or council to plant a tree in your community to encourage greener spaces in your area and enhance air quality, while spending time outdoors is also being identified as a good way to form a stronger relationship with the planet.

Sky Zero and WWF are hellbent on blazing a trail and Tanya Steele, Chief Executive at WWF, said: ““All UK governments must keep their climate promises while we still have a chance to turn things around.  We all have a role to play and becoming a Force for Nature and helping us plant more carbon-capturing seagrass seeds is one of the ways people can show their support.”

Jeremy Darroch, Executive Chairman at Sky and WWF-UK Ambassador, added: “The world can’t wait, and so at Sky we’ve set our own ambition to be net zero carbon by 2030.“

“We’re asking people to become a #ForceForNature; to call on all UK governments to keep their climate promises and in turn restore seagrass, a carbon-capturing technology that nature itself has provided for us.”

Become a Force for Nature to show all UK governments that you care about UK nature and in return Sky Zero and WWF will plant up to a million carbon-capturing seagrass seeds on behalf of the UK public. Sign up at http://www.wwf.org.uk/force-for-nature
