AN AMBASSADOR for the London 2012 Olympics visited the borough today for the official start of construction works at the Uxbridge Lido site.
Sharron Davies MBE officially launched the start of the £25m building work at the site, which will see the disused 1930's pool rebuilt, alongside a new world class leisure complex.
The former Olympian said: "I think it's a fantastic commitment to be rebuilding this pool, and very brave. London needs more pools of this size and quality, and it's great to see this kind of ambition for the local community."
The leisure village will include a 50-metre, Olympic-sized pool, the first to be built in London for 40 years.
Hillingdon Council hopes it will open in December next year.
