BORIS Johnson was given a tour of the Travis Perkins branch in South Ruislip, in his own constituency, to gain a better understanding of the industry.

Mr Johnson climbed into the cab of a fully-electric lorry and heard how Travis Perkins is preparing for when petrol and diesel LGVs and HGVs are banned.

The visit was organised by the Builders Merchants Federation, to highlight the role played by builders’ merchants in the construction supply chain.

Mr Johnson discussed the importance of de-carbonising buildings and electrifying heating and transport.

John Newcomb, CEO of the federation, said staff were able to demonstrate how low- or zero-carbon products were being supplied to builders.
