Thousands braved the bitterly cold winds to enjoy Blackburn’s Christmas Lights switch-on.
Choirmaster and broadcaster Gareth Malone officially turned on Blackburn’s Christmas lights outside the Town Hall.
Ahead of the lights switch-on he led a rendition of Mariah Carey ‘All I Want For Christmas’ along with the Blackburn and Darwen Brass Band.
It will make up part of the show Gareth has been filming in the town for a documentary due to be aired on BBC Two on Christmas Eve.
Throughout the afternoon there were performances by the King George’s Hall’s panto cast, Katrina’s Dance Academy, and DJs from Blackburn Youth Zone.
For the countdown to the switch-on Gareth was joined by the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Cllr Derek Hardman on stage.
The day of festivities organised by the Blackburn BID team and Blackburn with Darwen Council culminated in a spectacular fireworks and pyrotechnic display choreographed to music.
The weekend also marked the launch of Light the Night: The Snowman and The Snowdog brick model trail – 16 illuminated brick models located around the town centre.
Members of the Re:Ignite Church, who are based at The Exchange handed out free mince pies and much-needed hot drinks
