A FOOTBALL fan has been left out of pocket by over £100 after making a "spur of the moment" decision to enter the playing area during a match earlier this season.
Liam Bailey, 25, of Bradford Road, Drighlington, was given a conditional discharge for the offence, but must pay £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a £22 victim services surcharge.
Bailey's guilty plea was taken into account when sentence was passed at Kirklees Magistrates Court on November 16.
Court documents reveal that Bailey, without lawful authority or lawful excuse, went onto the playing area contrary to sections 4 and 5 of the Football (Offences) Act 1991.
A Football Banning Order was applied for and not granted because it was deemed to be a "low level offence" carried out in the "spur of the moment" with no violence or threats used, and only the defendant involved.
The incident took place during a Championship match at the John Smiths Stadium, Huddersfield, on October 16, 2021. Huddersfield Town won the match 2-0 against Hull City.
