A GIRL of 10 from Ealing has raised thousands for Cancer Research UK to support her mother, who was diagnosed with cancer.

She set up a cake sale at her school, Christ the Saviour Primary at Ealing Broadway, raising an impressive £1,000.

Her aunt, Sarah Fox, lives more than 100 miles away and was unable to buy a cake in person to support her niece.

Instead, Sarah set up a ‘virtual’ cake sale through GoFundMe, to allow people to donate.

The GoFundMe page received 83 donations and raised a further £1,600 for Cancer Research in just five days.

Sarah said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the response. I'm just really proud of her, it’s amazing.

“It also helped me feel like I’m doing something to support the family at a difficult time.”

Classmates helped her niece (who we are not identifying) create posters for the bake sale.

“Everyone has really got behind it in the school, and some of the kids are doing other fundraising things for Cancer Research UK, to show solidarity”, added Sarah.

The GoFundMe page is still open to accept donations, which are sent directly to the charity, along with 100% of any Gift Aid claimed:
