FOR its next performance, the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra is staging an evening of Russian orchestral favourites.
The programme will include Rachmaninov’s stunning Piano Concerto No.2, featured in Brief Encounter, performed by piano soloist Mariela Cingo.
She first performed this concerto many years ago with the HPO.
The concert will also include Khachaturian’s Adagio from Spartacus, instantly recognisable as the theme from the TV drama The Onedin Line.
Mussorgsky’s dramatic Night on the Bare Mountain, remembered by many from Disney’s Fantasia, will also be performed, along with Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Ballet Suite.
Apprentice fans will not be disappointed as the orchestra will perform Prokofiev’s Dance of the Knights, also known as the Montagues and Capulets from his Romeo and Juliet ballet. It forms the ominous theme tune from the TV show.
Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra has more than 60 registered members. In addition to countless concerts at venues throughout Hillingdon, the group has also performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Southwark Cathedral.
It will be led by Lucy Cumming and conducted by the founder of the orchestra, Peter J. Williams.
