FIVE people have been convicted of modern slavery offences and 134 women safeguarded following a Met Police investigation.

One of the five maintained a brothel in Hayes.

After a 10-week trial at Isleworth Crown Court, the five were convicted yesterday (16) of offences relating to exploitation, conspiracy and controlling prostitution.

They will be sentenced at the same court on May 27.

Acting Det Insp Esther Richardson said: “I am pleased we have been able to uncover the true scale of this illegal operation.

“The Met’s modern slavery team works around the clock to identify people involved in human trafficking and forced labour."

The defendants included Michael Lozinski, 52, of Berwick Avenue, Hayes. The court heard how he ran five brothels in west London, including his own address.

In February last year, the defendants were arrested in swoops at Harrow, Romford, Hayes, Forest Gate and Harlow in Essex.
